Wacky Wednesday Giant Clothespins

Wacky Wednesday Giant Clothespins

Expanding the upper body outward at the clavicles (collar bones) is essential for good posture.  Unfortunately, this area often caves in slightly, the upper back rounds, and the straight alignment is compromised.  It doesn't look good, either!

So imagine a pair of giant clothespins – the spring type – and attach one to each shoulder/upper arm area, parallel to the floor.  Good.  Now imagine that these clothespins are being pulled gently outward by an invisible piece of elastic that stretches to infinity.  Great!

These clothespins prevent the caving in of the upper chest, and the rounding over of the upper back. Opening the upper chest makes the dancer look more confident, too!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Secret #1gg:
“Imagine a giant clothespin at the top of each arm (at the shoulder) that pull outward.”
