Wacky Wednesday Weights

Wacky Wednesday Weights

A common problem with port de bras is a droopy hand.  And, as we all know from Ballet Statute #18:  “There is no drooping in ballet”.

To keep the hands alive and vibrant, imagine having a tiny weight at the end of each fingertip.  This weight can be thought of as internal (inside the fingertip), or external -  as a unique part of fingernail polish.  Imagine asking for wee weights to be added to each finger as a finishing touch on your next manicure!

However you think about it, this puts the mental focus on the physicality of the fingers.  Simply thinking about the fingers will often be all that is needed to improve the overall port de bras.  Plus, it is hard to ignore fingers that have suddenly become heavier – even when it is imaginary!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Secret #6x:
To prevent limp hands, imagine having small weights in the fingertips.
