Weird Wednesday and Plié Houses
When working with small children and introducing them to
beginning steps in ballet, imagery and game playing is crucial. Of course, any of these early images can be
used by advanced dancers too!
In second position, the shape created in the legs by a
correct plié, is the shape of a house with a slight peak in the roof line. Children love this image, since most of them
have drawn pictures of houses. It is
often combined in a lesson with the diamond shape that is created in a first
position plié.
It also helps to explain that the house must be strong and
straight. Simply saying this usually makes the students lift and align their posture.
