Monday Connection

Monday Connection
A common problem with pliés often occurs at the end.  Dancers sometimes forget to fully elongate their legs at the end of the plié, thus losing the full benefit of the step.  Since pliés are designed to serve as either a push or a cushion, it is important to bring the plié to its full conclusion.
To help with this, remember Secret # 2i:  At the end of a plié, remember to connect the knees.  In other words, the backs of the knees should “kiss” when the legs resolve into their fully elongated (straight) position.  If this doesn’t happen, it means the legs are relaxed and therefore not in a safe place.  A straight knee is a safe knee!
So at the conclusion of a plié, remember to connect the knees.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Secret #2i
“When coming up from a plié, remember to connect the knees.”
