Throwback Thursday New Year
A school was established first: A school designed to train
dancers in a unique American style of
ballet. It was directed by Lincoln
Kirstein and George Balanchine. Today it
is famous world-wide as The School of American Ballet, or SAB, in New York City.
From this fledgling group came a progression of companies,
from The American Ballet, Ballet Society, and finally on October 11, 1948, The New York City Ballet.
The school that started it all was founded on New Year’s Day
1934, with the first classes held on January 2nd.
