Wacky Wednesday Two Ways

There are generally only two ways allowed in classical ballet for the foot to leave the floor.   I remember when I first learned this, it seemed impossible. But it is true.

The two ways are:  1. Dégagé, and 2. peeling the foot off the floor, usually through a cou de pied position.   That’s it. You either pick the foot up or send it out.  This is simple in concept, but difficult to achieve without years of repetition.

 This is partially why dance looks so beautiful – a floppy foot is never seen.  Instead, the foot is always pointed as – or before - the foot leaves the floor.

Secret #16a:
