Pillows

Pillows

Yes, I’m still talking about those arms in à la seconde.  Yesterday I used the image of marionette strings on the elbows.  Here is another idea for developing the correct support beneath the upper arms.
Giant pillows.  Imagine the upper arms are supported by big fluffy pillows, one under each arm.  They are firm and fluffy enough to provide lift, but not so fluffy as to cause a lifting of the shoulders in addition to the arms.
This visual image can be used in conjunction with the marionette strings for maximum impact.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:

Secret #6i
“Imagine giant pillows underneath the upper arms in à la seconde.”

Quote of the Day:

“I was taught that to create anything you had to believe in failure, simply because you had to be prepared to go through an idea without any fear. Failure, you learned, as I did in art school, to be a wonderful thing. It allowed you to get up in the morning and take the pillow off your head.”

- Malcolm McLaren
