Fun Friday Secret Service Elbows
In à la seconde, the curved shape of the arms is the same as
the curve of the arms in fifth en bas, fifth en avant, and fifth en haut. Therefore, establishing this shape correctly
in à la seconde has far-reaching (no pun intended) benefits.
In previous posts I talked about how in à la seconde, the
arms have a slight downward slope (from the shoulders), and now I’m adding
another element. Imagine that the elbows
(the pointy part) have eyes, and those eyes are trained toward the back. Like two ever-vigilant Secret Service agents,
those all-seeing elbows are always scanning the area behind the dancer.
